dr. matthew mccabe
professor, composer, designer, sometime neuroscientist, and audio geek
where i am
i live in the lovely historic district of columbus, georgia, a few blocks
away from the schwob school of music at
columbus state university, where i'm
currently working as visiting assistant professor of audio technology. i'm responsible
for the recording studio (and the best group of young recording engineers the world has ever seen!) in addition
to teaching music theory, technology, and psychology courses.
in the spring of 2010 i completed my ph.d. at the university of florida. i went to UF from bowling green, ohio, where i completed my master's degree at bgsu. before that, i worked at the music technology lab at the university of
richmond in virginia. i did my undergraduate work there, and was a staff member for 2 years. every year i go back for the third practice festival, and i still serve as the technical director for that amazing event.
what i'm doing
my ph.d. and m.m are in music composition. i've always focused on contemporary music,
especially electroacoustic music. you can hear some of my work on my music page, or purchase commissions
and premieres CD from third practice, or the disc [re] from everglade records.
apart from running all things technical at CSU's schwob school, i've also been a technical director of the florida electroacoustic music festival as i am the current T.D. of the third practice festival at the university of richmond. currently i'm also serving on the executive council of the society of composers, inc. as a system administrator and designer.
recently i've turned my attention to the study of neuroscience, and collaborate with the lab team of dr. jamie reilly in the department of communication disorders at the university of florida. jamie served as a committee member on my dissertation, and we maintain an active and argumentative relationship :).
other stuff...
i was a web designer for quite a while, acting as co-owner of escapement arts & media. the company is still around but not really active. once upon a time, we designed and sold the blankets that are for sale on thinkgeek. if you need to satisfy your swag lust, point your browser there and find a whole truckload of geeky stuff.
you too can make a cute little avatar of yourself, like the one i have above, by going here.
please use a decent web browser like firefox and help promote web standards.
